Each season we meet a core group of 4 mothers in different cities across the country who just like Lezley, are on that same path.
The bill was written with help from Lezley McSpadden, the mother of Michael Brown, who was killed by police in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014, sparking national outcry against police brutality in Black and brown communities.
Brown would have turned 25 on Thursday and this week his alma mater celebrated his life, committing to promoting social justice awareness and civic engagement at the school and in the city.

McSpadden spoke to students at the law school about her experience dealing with grief, working with elected leaders in Ferguson, and the Mike Brown Bill that she is developing in partnership with the Center.
âThis is a family effort,â said McSpadden. âIâm glad to have the help of my mother, and my aunt, and everyone else.â
