Michael O. D. Brown Memorial Scholarship for Social Justice, Performance Arts, and Trades

Purpose: 

The Michael O. D. Brown Memorial Scholarship for Social Justice, Performing Arts, and Trades awards scholarships to college-bound high school seniors based on demonstrated academic achievement, financial need, and an expressed interest in enrolling into a post-secondary program in pursuit of a certification, associates, or bachelor’s degree in the performing arts or social justice/activism.

This scholarship is a tribute to Mike’s desire, determination, discipline and dedication. It is a celebration of his life and legacy.

Criteria: 

The students eligible for assistance must be graduating high school seniors attending Central Visual & Performing Arts, Jennings, McCluer, Normandy, River View Gardens, and University City High Schools who intend to continue their education at a community college, a four- year college or university or trade school. Consideration will be given to academic achievement, financial need and the student’s community service record.

Guidelines: 

Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis.

Amount: 

Each scholarship awarded will be in the amount of $3,000.

Renewal Process: 

This Scholarship is not renewable. Previous scholarship recipients cannot re-apply.

Application:

Before proceeding with this application, please ensure you have the following documents:

  • Proof that you have applied and/or been accepted to a higher education program
  • Proof of at least a 2.5 GPA, as shown on your most recent report card
  • Proof of community or volunteer service within the last year

All incoming 2024 seniors of the above-mentioned High Schools are encouraged to apply next year.
